Patti Garner - actress
Patti Garner (formerly Mathews) joined The Playhouse in 2003 following in her son's (Kenny Mathews) footsteps. Her first role was in Arsenic and Old Lace as Martha. This gave her the first taste of theater and, as with many other performers, she was hooked. The next show was Miracle Worker. Another Wonderful cast to work with... And, something Stained Glass Playhouse had nothing to do with, Patti became a Grandmother for the first time on opening night. Then it was on to Jesus Christ Super Star. This was the first time Patti shared the stage with her son, Kenny, and it was also her first musical. It was great! (Not to mention that her grandson, Tru, had a 'carry-on' part during a Sunday performance.
She then took a little time off during the school year, but was back the following summer (2005)for The Wizard of Oz. This was a ' family affair'. Not only were Kenny, Amanda (his wife), and Tru all in the show, but now we are beginning to feel like part of the Stained Glass Playhouse family. Behind the new characters, are many familiar faces. This was a great show bringing back childhood memories for everyone.
The Boys Next Door was another show with Patti, Kenny and Amanda. Then after taking time off for her family (now with 5 grandchildren) and teaching job, she could no longer stay away. Patti returned for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (2007). Gymnasia was a much different role, but it was quite fun. (Not to mention that I got to help my son put his dress, shoes and wig on every evening for the ' virgin' scene). Following the show, she had just enough time for a wedding and honeymoon in Tennessee before school began.
The last two productions that Patti has been in were Cemetery Club and Death Trap. These both had small casts and were quite a bit of fun (I just hope I'm not starting to be type-cast). Death Trap was the first chance I had to actually die on stage (it took plenty of practice).
Stained Glass Playhouse has been a wonderful experience. All of the cast and crew are a large family, and it is always good to come ' home '.
