Becky Burke – Actress, Stage Manager, Director, Board Member
On stage, Becky has appeared in several SGP productions. She made her debut on the
SGP stage as MollieRalston in The Mousetrap, took a hiatus from onstage work, and
then reappeared as a chorus member in Jesus Christ Superstar, as Almira Gultch and
the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz, and as Helga ten Dorp in Deathtrap.
She has also appeared with other local theatre companies from time to time. Prior
to living in Winston Salem, Becky appeared on stage at Soldier’s Theatre in Vicenza,
Italy, and with the Castaways Repertory Theatre in Woodbridge, VA.
Becky’s love of theatre led her to auditions while still living in Woodbridge, VA. She started with the Castaways and became the Stage Manager for their production of The Lion in Winter. This show holds a special place in her heart, as this was the play that led her to meet her husband, Mike. Becky went on to work both onstage and backstage with the Castaways. Her first show as director was a one act play entered in competition at the Northern Virginia Theatre Alliance (NVTA) annual One-Act Festival. It was a multiple award-winning event for her and the theatre company. She also served as President of the theater company for one term.
Since Becky became a regular at SGP, she has stage managed many of the summer musicals, including Hello Dolly, Cinderella, 1776, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and Brigadoon. Becky also directed her first full length show at SGP, beginning with Death of a Salesman. She went on to direct The Boys Next Door, is directing The Lion in Winter for SGP in the fall of 2009, and will also direct the 2010 summer musical, Evita.
Becky was elected to the Board of Directors for SGP in the role of Treasurer in June 2008, and has been in the process of automating the bookkeeping. She’s already implemented a change in how numbers are tracked for each production.
In what passes for “real life,” Becky and her husband Mike are the proud parents of four active children: Ian, Devlin, Patrick, and Amanda. All of the children have already appeared onstage at SGP and will continue to do so whenever they can. Becky works much of the year for H&R Block in the role of Tax Advisor and Instructor. She loves both teaching taxes and helping people with their tax situation – the more complicated, the better.
